AC-2 MK II Mains Power Cord

The primary benefit in using a high quality well-designed power cord is the substantial improvement in dynamics, transient response, soundstage and the providing of a dark and quiet background. Stock original equipment power cords restrict the above desirable features. There is no shielding/filtering system in their design to eliminate the transmission of RF, EMI and other garbage to your components that your house wiring and power company has picked up along the way. We have developed a cabling (weaving) pattern along with an unusual shielding/filtering system that gets rid of the garbage that contaminates your components. The difference you hear with our cord is astounding. Our power cord takes advantage of silver in its design through use of our proprietary Silverfuse conductors. The conductors are 10 gauge and insulated with Teflon; the best insulation available.

Anyone who is knowledgeable of power cords in the High-End industry and is also knowledgeable of those that receve great recommendations, will, I am sure, know of the reputation of our original AC-2 Power Cord. We have been working for over 6 months on trying to develop a better one; (no easy task!).We had to be certain that any upgrade would an upgrade in all areas of performance: clarity, focus, dynamics, inner detail, harmonic accuracy and of course, it must be musical. After six months plus, we did it!!

The AC-2 MK II is truly an outstanding power cord.

The design and construction improvements are in two specific areas: The weaving geometry for the Mark IIs is done with a planetary cabler. This weaving machine, which allows engineers more freedom in designing more complex and more effective weaving geometries, also produces a much more accurate and consistent weaving geometry. Accuracy and consistency from foot to foot is essential to replicate and realize the benefits of the theoretical “on paper” design. The process is much more labor intensive, primarily in the set up for the production run, and in monitoring during the run. Consequently, it is more expensive to produce. Our weaving geometry though, effectively gets rid of RF, EMI and other garbage to your components that your house wiring and power company has picked up along the way.

Additionally, we use PTFE Teflon in most all of our cables; however, the insulation we are using for this new cable, while it is purchased as PTFE Teflon, we are modifying it during the wire manufacturing process. Again, a little more costly. Our modification to the PTFE Teflon insulation allows for substantial reduction of the signal discharge back into the metal conductor. Explanation: All insulations covering a metal wire will absorb a portion of the signal as it flows through the metal wire. That signal will discharge back into the metal wire, although it is delayed by a small fraction of time. This discharge back smears the real time current wave form that is passing through resulting in small but discernable distortion.

We continue to use our proprietary Silverfuse alloy conductor material.

We are pleased that we have achieved our development goals and are providing additional increments of performance improvement to enthusiasts.

There are, however, two types of Teflon: PTFE and FEP. FEP is less costly for the cable manufacturer; but is significantly inferior to PTFE. We use PTFE. Have you ever seen any other cable company specify that their Teflon is PTFE and not FEP? There is a message there.
We have also included a heavy-duty outer jacket to protect the interior and to also prevent against sharp bending of the cable. We have found that Cables that do not have this additional protection, if bent too sharply, can be susceptible to sustaining small fissures (cracks) in the conductor which, over a period of time; degrade the performance of the cable. This is one of the reasons that used cable gets into the used cable market. Performance has deteriorated and usually the former owner does not realize why. This is especially true of Cables that use a mesh cloth as their only outer protection. (Mesh cloth outer coverings are a sign of a hand made cable.

see our “Cable Hype” page in our web site concerning the problems with hand made Cables). We build our cord with a heavy duty three-prong IEC female connector (Otto Heil - easily one of the very best IEC sockets) at the equipment end and at the wall receptacle end, a hospital-grade plug with three prongs. How does this cable perform? It is designed to be perfectly neutral without emphasizing any portion of the frequency range. It has a wide and deep sound stage and excels in transparency and fidelity of timbre. Our customers tell us this cable is the equal of any power cord on the market and exceeds the performance of most regardless of price.

EXPLANATION OF OUR PROPRIETARY SILVERFUSE CONDUCTOR MATERIAL: Silverfuse is a near alloy of silver and copper. IT IS NOT SILVER PLATED OR SILVER CLAD. Plating (or clad, which is the same thing as plating) causes a dioding effect when signal is passed through resulting in brightness and distortion. The Silverfuse process starts with seven nines OFHC copper wire with a diameter that is slightly larger than the required size. It is then pulled through a trough of molten silver. The wire with a silver deposit, is then forced through a compacting die where it is subject to tremendous pressure. The silver and the high purity copper are fused together into a near alloy. The compacting fusion also reduces the wire diameter to the desired size. No dioding subsequently occurs with this process. The result provides for the benefits of silver; which are excellent definition and clarity, with the high purity copper benefits of warmth and mellowness.
The Competition: up to $800/six ft.

yet again my jaw was on the floor when I plugged everything in! Can't
wait till they all burn in. The images on my tv are simply awesome -
been watching Spiderman2, Shrek and Disney's Tarzan - the colour
separation is spot on and the detail has gone up - just seems to be
doing far better job than the kimber reference I'd been using. Bloody
excellent - cheers mate MS (UK) 8 Dec 2004 (5 x AC-2 0.9m long cables)

LAT power cables & DI-30 have made considerable

Without pontificating too much I will say that these products seriously work and shouldn't be doubted for a second. The multi plug board is excellent as are the powercords (I've used both on my hi fi at home and when gigging with my band.) The noise floor drops and the frequencies all level out beautifully, leaving behind a noiseless background and perfect clarity. Just don't go to that "other company" that produce similar products! They may produce a nice glossy brochure and have a fancy looking website but I now feel rather ripped off by them considering that the LAT stuff is not only better but a lot cheaper. No I don't work for LAT I'm just an enthusiast who knows how good this gear is. If you're thinking of upgrading your system DON'T BUY NEW HIFI, CHANGE THE WAY IT'S PLUGGED IN! Then you'll see how you're equipment actually sounds (even cheap hifi benefits enormously) - my system is an Arcam alpha5+ amp (£250 seven years ago), Philips cd player (about £130 from richer sounds) and Mission 731 speakers (about 7 years old) - these are all hooked up using the "other company's" gear (plugboard/powercords/speaker cable/interconnect) and it sounds far better than it has any right to! I also have an entry level Marantz dvd player using the AC2 powercord and LAT scart lead (better blacks, gorgeous picture and better sound - brilliant.)
If I'd been recommended LAT sooner obviously I would have gone with them but I'm pointing out that this kind of stuff WORKS. It may seem odd to spend this sort of money on plugs and Cables but it seriously gives your system a massive breath of life and in short your hifi will kick ass! MS London 12 June 2004

Great! I look forward to receiving (AC-2 MKII) and using: if the use of this particular length of LAT, for my Border Patrol SE300B, proves as valuable as using the length purchased earlier, for use between Pure Power unit and preamplifier, as I anticipate it will, there should be significant improvement in harmonics, drive, ‘quietness’, spatial reproduction, inter alia, indeed, the sheer musicality of reproduction. Upgrade the block - Re wire block with LAT AC-2 PTFE Teflon insulated 10 awg conductors

4 way - £39.00

6 way - £50.00

8 way - £61.00

I wanted to tell you how pleased I am with the cable and block and
your service. I am writing a review for Audioreview.com and would like to
mention your company if that is ok with you. I had a Russ Andrews mains
block and reference mains cable on trial when you delivered the block to me
so I was able to do a comparison. Even from cold the cable sounded more
coherent than the Kimber but since the cable has burned in the difference is
fantastic. I didn't think my amp and speakers could deliver so much clean
deep base quite simply the cable has improved the sound of my system to an
extraordinary degree and I will be buying more Cables as I need them . I use
a Perpetual Technologies DAC & Upsampler and they are very sensitive to
variations in mains quality so now I can hear the mains quality change at
different times of the day through the Lat Cables.
I can't stress enough the need to remind customers that they need to burn in
fully before you can fully appreciate these Cables. After a week or so the
sound just popped out in a 3 dimensional space from being flat and 2D before.
They are very good indeed and I will be recommending them to everybody as the
most cost effective upgrade you can make to a system.
